Biography

Antonino Castro is born and baptized 21 December 1827 in Corleone. He is the first born child of Maestro Carmelo Castro and Pietra Bordonaro, named after his paternal grandfather, as is traditional. His godparents are Ignazio Cusimano and Biagia Bordonaro, who are not married.

There is a duplicate baptismal record for Antonino on 20 January 1828.

His father, Carmelo, becomes a maestro by 1834. Two of Antonino's paternal uncles are also master carpenters, making it likely also Carmelo's profession.

In 1834, Antonio, 6 (b. 1827), lives on the strada Grande with his parents, Maestro Carmelo, 32 (b. 1799, he is 35), and Pietra, 29 (b. 1805), and his sisters Maria Antonia, 8 (b. 1826), and Bernarda, 4 (b. 1840). Another name, Filippo, is written, then crossed out and a cross written next to his name, suggesting he has died. There is no known son of this family named Filippo.

Two houses to the west on the strada di Favaloro (which is now called via Ostieri to the west of via Candelora, and via Mancaluso to the east), there is the family of Antonio Oliveri.

Antonino's father dies at age 50 (b. 1797) on 11 July 1847. The same year, his youngest brother, Gaetano, is born in January and dies in November.

Maestro Antonino has become a master carpenter (falegname) by the time he marries for the first time, in 1854.

Marriage to Francesca Paola de Luca

Maestro Antonino marries Francesca Paola de Luca (of unknown relation to the midwife of the same name, who is a generation older) on 24 July 1854.[1]

During the 1850s, Antonino lives with his wife Francesca Paola de Luca on via San Pietro in Corleone. They have at least four children: Carmela (1855), Carmelo (1856), Pietra (1857), and Maria Carmela (1859).

Carmela is born and baptized Carmelam on 6 May 1855. Her godparents are Leoluca Cascio and Maria Antonia, his unmarried sister.

She dies at eight days of age.

Carmelo is born and baptized Carmelum on 27 March 1856. His godparents are Ignazio and Stefana Milone, brother and sister.

Carmelo dies on 1 December 1856 at eight months of age.

Pietra is born and baptized Petram on 5 September 1857, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Matteo Salemi and paternal aunt Bernarda lo Cascio, a married couple.
Maria Carmela is born 28 September 1859 and baptized the following day. Her godfather is Biagio Bucchieri, who is unmarried.

Carmelo's mother, Pietra, dies at age 84 (b. 1795) on 29 April 1879.

His daughter, Pietra, marries Antonino Pulizzi on 26 April 1880.

Marriage to Arcangela Migliaccio

It is unknown when his wife passes away, but on 5 December 1882, we find Antonino lo Cascio, widower of Francesca Paola Lo Luca, marrying another widow, a washer woman from Prizzi named Arcangela Migliaccio.

Pietra and Carmelo, Antonino's children from his first marriage, stand as godparents to Biagia Mancuso on 13 November 1893.
